Winterhaut: Die besten Pflegetipps für kalte Tage

Winter skin: The best skincare tips for cold days

Skin needs extra attention in winter to protect it against the cold and dry air. Here are the best tips on how to care for your skin during the cold months:

Use rich moisturizing creams

In winter, skin needs a thicker cream that retains moisture well. Products with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or natural oils (e.g., jojoba or almond oil) help strengthen the skin barrier and prevent dryness.

Adjust your cleaning routine

Avoid harsh cleansers that further dry out the skin. Instead, opt for mild, pH-balanced products that gently cleanse the skin without stripping it of too much oil.

Use a facial oil

A good facial oil can complement your moisturizer and provide an extra protective film that prevents dryness. Apply the oil either under or over your moisturizer – depending on your skin type.

Pay attention to room humidity

Dry air from heating systems causes your skin to lose moisture more quickly. A humidifier in the rooms where you spend a lot of time can work wonders. Alternatively, regularly opening windows to let in fresh, humid air also helps.

Don't forget the sunscreen.

Even on cloudy winter days, UV rays damage your skin. Use sunscreen or a daily moisturizer with SPF to protect against premature aging and age spots.

Eat a hydrating diet

You can also support your skin from the inside out. Omega-3 fatty acids from fish or flaxseed, vitamin E, and vitamin C help keep skin elastic. Also, drink enough water to maintain your skin's moisture balance.

Avoid hot showers

Although tempting, hot showers severely dry out the skin. It's better to shower with lukewarm water and for as short a time as possible. Use shower oils or creams that provide extra care and moisturization while you shower.

Don't overdo the exfoliation

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, but should be used sparingly in winter to avoid stressing the delicate skin barrier. A gentle exfoliation once or twice a week is perfectly sufficient.
